For 52 years, Superior Printing and Publishing of Cromona (Letcher County), KY has served the region with its one-color printing press. The family-owned business publishes a weekly newspaper paper and prints for retail and wholesale customers within a five county area. Working with Southeast Community and Technical College Small Business Development Department, Mike Whitaker, President and CEO, was introduced to the ADA by Paul Pratt, Director of the Pine Mountain Community Development Corporation.

Superior used development loan proceeds to purchase a four-color, large-format Komori printing press and a booklet maker—that prints and binds a booklet in one step.  Whitaker says that the loan has given his family business “the potential and capability for unprecedented growth.” Within the first few weeks of installation and training, Superior Printing received seven color-printing jobs that they had not had the capability to produce before. Whitaker says the ADA has helped the company take steps in the right direction to become competitive with printing companies throughout the tri-state region. He says that with the new equipment and management training, “The future looks very promising.”
